Sink your teeth into a South Dakota tradition!
If you’ve never tried chislic, this is your sign. The South Dakota Chislic Festival in Freeman is a celebration of one of the state’s most legendary bites: skewered, perfectly seasoned lamb, served hot and simple—just the way Southeast South Dakota likes it. In Freeman, it comes with a sprinkle of salt and a stack of saltines. Add a cold drink and a shaded seat, and you're living like a local.
But chislic is just the beginning. Stick around for live music, classic small-town games, a bustling vendor market, and all the good vibes you’d expect when the whole community turns out to celebrate. Plus, it’s located in the beautiful and peaceful Freeman Prairie Arboretum.
View a recap from our friend Stephanie to get a taste of what to expect! Make plans to attend on July 26, 2025.
