Our Oregon adventure was exactly that.
The open road stretched out before us as five friends piled into a colorful campervan with no expectations other than to explore. We knew Oregon was famous for its dramatic coastlines, towering waterfalls, mountain peaks, and lush forests—but nothing prepared us for just how diverse and breathtaking this state would be.
From the rolling vineyards of Willamette Valley to the towering slopes of Mount Hood, every stop reminded us that Oregon isn't just a destination—it's an experience.
Of course, road-tripping with friends isn't always glamorous. There were wrong turns, spotty cell service, endless route planning, and more than a few debates over where to stop next. But those moments became just as memorable as the destinations themselves, proving that sometimes the best parts of a trip happen between the planned stops.

Before hitting the road, there are a few things worth knowing:
- Cell service can be unreliable throughout much of the state, especially in the mountains and remote areas.
- Highway 101 isn't all ocean views—you'll spend plenty of time winding through beautiful forests.

- Oregon moves at a slower pace than many visitors are used to. Embrace it.

The Ride: Exploring Oregon with Escape Campervans
Every great road trip starts with the perfect vehicle.
We found ours through Escape Campervans, whose brightly painted vans are practically made for adventure. After packing up our campervan—appropriately named Kool-Aid—we left Portland behind and headed northeast toward our first stop.
Driving alongside the Columbia River, crossing into Washington, and winding through scenic byways quickly reminded us why the Pacific Northwest has become one of America's favorite road trip destinations.
Our first overnight stay would become one of our favorite memories of the entire trip.
Timber Moon: A Hidden Forest Escape
Nestled along the edge of the forest, Timber Moon was everything you'd hope for in a Pacific Northwest retreat.
The beautifully designed home blended modern comfort with rustic charm, creating the perfect place to unwind after a day of exploring. From the moment we arrived, the peaceful atmosphere made it easy to disconnect from everyday life.
One of our favorite discoveries was the hiking trail located just steps behind the house. The trail led through towering evergreens before opening up to a crystal-clear river where we spent the afternoon swimming, laughing, and soaking in the quiet beauty surrounding us.
Back at the house, the hot tub became the perfect place to relax beneath the trees after a full day outdoors.
What made Timber Moon even more memorable was its artistic personality. The home featured handcrafted artwork by local artist Claudia, whose creativity extends beyond the house into her nearby gardens and studio. Her thoughtful touches made the experience feel warm, personal, and uniquely Oregon.

Mount Hood: Oregon's Iconic Peak
No Oregon road trip feels complete without visiting Mount Hood.
Standing at over 11,000 feet, the state's tallest mountain dominates the skyline and somehow manages to look even more impressive in person than in photographs.
We spent time wandering the charming mountain town at its base, browsing local shops, enjoying live music, and soaking up the incredible scenery before making our way higher into the mountains.
As we climbed in elevation, forests gave way to alpine meadows, patches of snow lingered beside hiking trails, and panoramic views stretched for miles in every direction.
Whether you're hiking, skiing, or simply enjoying the drive, Mount Hood is one of Oregon's must-see destinations.
Three Waterfalls You Can't Miss
Oregon is home to hundreds of waterfalls, but these three quickly became favorites.
Naked Falls
Just a short drive from Timber Moon, Naked Falls is a local favorite for swimming and relaxing. Its peaceful setting makes it the perfect place for a picnic or a refreshing afternoon surrounded by nature. Be sure to purchase a parking pass before visiting, as access is monitored.
Bridal Veil Falls
A relatively short hike leads visitors to Bridal Veil Falls, where cascading water tumbles through lush greenery. The trail includes several places to stop and enjoy the scenery, but the real reward comes at the base of the falls, where the rushing water creates an unforgettable view.
Multnomah Falls
Perhaps Oregon's most iconic waterfall, Multnomah Falls is breathtaking from every angle.
The 611-foot waterfall is one of the tallest in the United States, drawing visitors from around the world. Standing on Benson Bridge with the powerful cascade rushing behind it was easily one of the highlights of our trip.
It's one of those places that simply has to be experienced in person.

What made this trip unforgettable wasn't just the incredible scenery.
It was waking up in the woods, sharing meals with friends, swimming in glacier-fed rivers, driving endless scenic highways, and discovering places we'd never heard of before arriving.
