For as long as mankind has existed, people have helped other people.
Three remarkable Itascans—a doctor, a teacher, and a police officer—are elevating the drive to help others to an entirely new level.
Phill Hermel came up with the idea to combine a triathlon-style event with fundraising to support local organizations. Teaming up with Grand Rapids Police Officer Troy Scott and Dr. Simon Lick, Phill’s goal is to cover 250 miles in just 36 hours. “The Great Itasca Giveback” (T-GIG) is an inspiring challenge set to make a significant impact on Itasca County. What began as a simple idea from Phill has evolved into a demanding 250-mile journey, where each team member will push their physical limits to make a difference.
TOMORROW, August 2nd, 2024, they will set out from Grand Rapids, Minnesota—Dr. Lick biking 125 miles, Troy running a marathon, and Phill rollerblading.
